Dear Editor,
An advisory board at the Minister of Public Infrastructure, appointed by Ferguson. Hear me out. Isn’t this woman an unwanted attachment as an assistant to the Minister? The essence of this story I’m about to carry is for the public to understand how their hard earned tax dollars are mismanaged by certain misfits in government. In case you’re wondering why they are called “MISFITS” it’s a terminology used by the late Steve Jobs (The IPhone / apple founder). It refers to persons who do not seem to belong in a particular group or situation, and as such do not add value to people or societies but are somehow in the upper echelon in positions to delegate.
Here we have a junior minister in our government who has created an advisory council to assist her and who has admitted publicly “I cannot do it alone ….” One has to wonder who hired these people. I can list all the misfits and their list of mistakes and inaccuracies and the news print won’t be enough to list them all. Here are some of their duties attached to the New Advisory Board;
1) Modernise transport for the public – Go to Stabroek Market, Vreed-en-Hoop just to name a few. Do you need a board to tell you what everyone else’s sees but not you?
2) Address the staffing and administration – You just hired another bunch of unnecessary persons like yourself to formulate policies and regulations. Imagine that! There are so many policies and regulations already in place and they are being violated daily and ignored by the same administration that supposedly should be enforcing them. Now you’re asking them to add more. That will take them just about a year, by then their contract will be up and ready for renewal. So will be your Minister and the money all vanished in thin air.
3) She reiterated – “I don’t want to see long lines at the booth waiting to purchase tickets. Make use of technology. We should all be able to buy a ticket online.” How many people that ply the corridors have access to a computer Minister?
Even when access to a computer is there, there is usually black out. By the time the power comes back on the boat is gone. The masses are poor peasants, a handful of entrepreneurs and the hustlers and miners.
The board does not need to tell you that; you live there and are unaware of this fact. I’ve been living outside of Guyana for the last thirty four years and I know that much. As a Minister you should be knowledgeable of these facts. Here is some good advice, rescind the board; go out in the fields; save the tax payers’ money; operate a lean and clean Ministry; meet the people; hear their concerns .
In North America we say; roll up your sleeves and get into the trenches. There you will see firsthand, what you didn’t know and how much you can attain working with the people. Issue some form of ticket or token that can be available at almost every corner store. We do that here in CANADA, the best of the G7 nations. Yes, we don’t buy bus tickets online to travel local; we buy it from the Transit booth or corner stores or we can purchase a monthly bus pass like a bank card. Oh! Please don’t get an advisory board to monitor the process. Take courses on LEAN METHODOLGY – 5 modes of waste.
4) “You need to bring to me the safety issues and how you all are going to tackle this” – are they all in a classroom? It appears that way. You hired them to come up with ideas but you have now given them all your ideas, how will they brainstorm the issues?
Just head to Stabroek Market and see the health and safety violations with the speed boats – Essequibo is a bit too far. A word of advice from Bob Dylan
Your old road is rapidly aging; please get out of the new one if you can’t lend a hand’ for the times they are a changing
