Parents and relatives of 14-year-old Vanitta Motielall are hoping that a medical miracle can save her life.
Motielall currently suffers from a congenital cardiac anomaly known as Atrial Septal
Defect or a “hole in the heart”.
The girl’s mother, Nasranie Motielall, explained that her daughter was born with the condition but it was only recently diagnosed.
“All her life she was treated for asthma, but two years ago she collapsed in the school yard, and doctors found that she had a hole in her heart.”
Mrs. Motielall said that doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital had advised her that not much could be done to save her daughter’s life, since the diagnosis was too late and asthma medication had damaged the girl’s insides.
The teenager currently survives with the help of oxygen and moves around with the aid of wheelchair. Despite the report of those doctors, relatives of the teen are hoping for another opinion which could possibly lead to her life being saved.
“My husband works as a labourer and I cannot work because my daughter does not go to school due to her condition. So we cannot afford to pay the private doctors to get a second opinion. We were hoping to get some assistance for that. We still want to know if there is a possibility that something can be done to help her.”
Persons interested in assisting the teenager can contact the family on the following telephone numbers: 683-4595, 696-2102 or 611-1653
