Dear Editor,
The police in many hinterland regions are not doing the work they are being paid to do. In Region1 (Barima-Waini) in the Mabaruma sub-region a pensioner by the name of Eustace Marcellino of the Barimanobo community (behind soldiers barracks) was killed around the 31st March 2017 and the murderers are living right in the community. Marcellino lived with a daughter who claimed that she did not know what had become of him, the Mabaruma police failed to conduct proper investigations and were even directed by the daughter Marcellino resided with, on where and where not to search.
The matter was reported to the Commissioner of Police and to date no action has been taken. Is it because Marcellino was of Amerindian Ancestry? I am appealing to the Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of police to dispatch a team of police investigators to Mabaruma to have Marcellino’ killers brought to justice.
