Three men accused of committing a $28M robbery at Craig, East Bank Demerara, were remanded to prison yesterday after they made an appearance before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Winston McKenzie, 35, of New Scheme, Eccles, East Bank Demerara; Andre Vieira, 26, and Feyaud Hamid both of Meadow Bank, East Bank Demerara were not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on May 20, at Craig, East Bank Demerara, they robbed Dai Zhung of a minibus valued $2.3M, a quantity of fish glue valued $25M, three cell phones and $500,000 cash-all totaling $28,780,000.
Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt opposed to the men being granted bail citing the nature and gravity of the offence. He also pointed out that there is a likelihood the accused might not return to court if granted pre trial liberty.
Prosecutor Hunt disclosed that the case file is still incomplete.
These objections were upheld by Magistrate Latchman who remanded the men to prison until July 12.
