Guyanese man handed to immigration after admitting to drugs possession

Barbados (Barbados Today) -A Guyanese man was handed over to immigration officials yesterday after appearing in a Bridgetown court and admitting to drug possession.
Loamchand Doulatram, who was residing at Bushy Park, Park St Philip, pleaded guilty to having cannabis in his possession on Saturday.
According to the police prosecutor, lawmen were in the area of Fairchild Street, The City, when they observed Doulatram standing in the area of the taxi stand. As lawmen approached, he dropped a plastic bag which was later retrieved and found to contain four greaseproof wrappings of cannabis.
Asked to give account for having the contraband, Doulatram admitted owning the drugs.
After speaking with Magistrate Douglas Frederick, the prosecutor informed the court that Doulatram had been living in the country for the last five years without the proper documentation.
The 53-year-old farmer arrived in Barbados back in 2012 and was granted a 30-day stay on a work permit. However, the permit expired and was never renewed.
Doulatram was handed over to immigration officers who were present in the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court after the magistrate convicted, reprimanded and discharged him on the charge.
