Dear Editor,
I must firstly thank Kaieteur News for being the only paper that really cares for the voiceless people. My concern is the mini bus situation in Enterprise which is unbearable; it seems as if there is no solution. For the past 23 years of the PPP Government, we complained to all authorities in high office but no help was given. For the past two years of this new government we are still suffering and complaining, but I am a hundred percent sure help is on the way. The people have confidence in our great and caring President and our much beloved Prime Minister and the Honourable Security Minister
The issues we want addressed are the loud and foul music eminating from the buses (not all) maybe 10 of them; overloading of the buses; driving at a fast rate in our village; drivers and conductors drinking, smoking and not dressing properly (they wear short pants and slippers). Also they are robbing our honest commuters, the fare from Georgetown to Enterprise is $140.00 and from 12 pm, most of them charge us $200.00.
We have been calling Vigilance Police Station for over 20 years but that is the worst station in the entire Caribbean. Also we get no help from the Traffic Department. Two months ago about six buses were detained and their big boom boxes and music removed – we breathed a sigh of relief. Within in three days all of them got back their music sets and the madness continued. I want the police to say who returned the sets, and how much was allegedly paid to return them. We are tired making calls to the station and giving them the bus numbers. Another worrying case is that of a bus working in Enterprise transporting kindergarten school children – a fifteen seater bus that carries at least 60 to 65 little school children. Is this not abuse of these little Angels to have to stand or sit on each other? Where is the God in these bus drivers and conductors? Just Friday last a traffic rank came to Enterprise on a motor cycle and arrested a bus driver for the offence of playing loud music. Can you imagine the next day the same bus was blasting its music again?
Where is the oath these police took to serve and protect? I am asking anyone in authority or who loves people, to visit Enterprise at 7.00 am to 9.00 am and see how much revenue the Government is losing daily. To the police I am begging – please help us so we can stop this madness. And finally can this Government make sure Parliament passes a law banning loud music from all public transport as soon as possible.
