The Linden Technical Institute is now equipped with a telescope, thanks to the generosity of retired Deputy Civil Aviation Director, Aubrey Alexander.
Linden businessman Steve Bovell, who introduced Alexander at the presentation ceremony, said that the future development of the country rests with young people, but it would be useless unless they acquired the range of requisite skills to aid in that process.
“We are very fortunate to be part of this historic institution, as many brilliant engineers and managers have passed through this institution, so you must regard what you are going through here as a privilege.”
Bovell said that he was a bit taken aback when Alexander told him that he was coming to make the presentation, especially since Alexander is not from Linden.
Alexander said that he was very happy to present the telescope and exhorted the students to make good use of it. He detailed how it could be used to broaden their horizons as they learn more about the stratosphere.
“Things are going to happen; be ready when that happens. I don’t know if this small gift here would perhaps inspire one of you to become an astronaut.
Alexander alluded to some of the persons that graduated from the institution. “They have served the country well,” he said.
He however urged the students that apart from the courses they are pursuing, to become involved in agriculture.
The gesture was applauded by a lecturer of the Linden Technical Institute, who thanked Alexander on behalf of his charges.
