Dear Editor,
Yes, it’s been very unfair to our elected leaders and NOT newly elected leaders, since they have been sitting on thrones for well over two years to compare their performance review with that of any of the Western Nations. Yes, we MUST be fair to them.
I will compare them to TANZANIA – Index of World Economic Freedom ranked them both, neck to neck 58.5 %.
Top three are Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand – want to guess the bottom three?
Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea. What’s most astonishing is we don’t have any relationship with the top three but with two at the bottom of the pit. Judge these misfits on your own merits.
If your presence doesn’t add value to my life, then your absence won’t make a difference
Now it’s a fair comparison – Agreed? Yes, both countries over years have been marred with corrupt electoral processes to give way for the corrupt rulers. Post-election results in both countries after their Independence, just about the same time.
We all remember, those well over fifty and what role our new Preze played then. Let’s not forget.
Every time history repeats itself, the price goes up. In short, be prepared for what’s coming in 2020. Let me get back on track.
Tanzania’s newly elected leader, John P Mogufuli, won six months after our Preze, inherited well over five decades of corruption – sounds familiar. Our preze didn’t inherit corruption, he was in corruption.
Yes, John P was a school teacher and practising catholic and from grass roots upbringing in the farming community. Not well admired by the inner circle of the then political tycoons, but by the masses of working class. They called him the BULLDOZER, destined to stamp out corruption, eliminate power outages, explore the oil and gas industry, reduced taxes, cuts and cuts and cuts. It was revealed by a former Prime Minister that John P could have made himself millions when he was a minister since he handled trillions upon trillions of shillings in projects, but chose not to – Lead by example.
May last year he sacked the entire Mining board and the Minister of Mining for corruption. He asked every member of his cabinet not to hold meetings in hotels and banquet halls unless it’s free of charge but at the Ministry itself.
If space is inadequate at the Ministries HQ, go to the parliament. It was documented, the bourgeoisie experiences by JOHN P’s stern actions costs JOHN P himself some dispersed friends.
“You can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen”
At every meeting during his campaign, he would do his 20 push-ups before getting to the podium. Cabinet of nineteen Ministers for a population of fifty five million citizens; working an average 11 hours, six days just like the working class.
The Ministers salaries shot up like a space shuttle taking off to Mars, stalled economy, rising unemployment. Preze government comprises 27 Ministers almost fifty percent more – How you explain that, with a population not even a million? Don’t shake your head yet, salary for a Tanzanian Minister is US$36,000 annually. John P, US$42,000 annually. Don’t call the ambulance as yet …our Ministers? If the rent is $500,000, imagine. Did anyone get fired for corruption? Gold Board hear me out; Green / King hear me out.
Bob Dylan’s “Times they are changing.” Come senators, congressmen please heed the call; don’t stand in the door way block up the hall. There’s a battle outside and it’s raging.
