Three New Amsterdam prison inmates yesterday appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alex Moore, to be charged jointly with murder and attempted murder.
Dillon Boucher, 25, of Haslington Village, East Coast Demerara; Rooplall Abrahim, 24, of Lot 4 Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice; and Ramchand Latchman, 23, of Number 65 Village, Corentyne were charged jointly for the murder of Neshan Jagmohan, 27.
The particulars of the charge state that on Wednesday, June 21 last, at the New Amsterdam Prison, the trio allegedly murdered Jagmohan. The men were not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The men were also charged jointly with attempted murder on the same day. They allegedly wounded Ramnarine Jagmohan, 31, with intent to murder. They were also not required to plead to the charge and bail was denied.
Inspector Prosecutor, Godfrey Playter, explained to the Magistrate that the preliminary advice was done and further investigation and advice will be sought. The Prosecutor also told the Magistrate that Ramnarine Jagmohan has since been cleared medically and is recovering well.
The men will return to court on September 4, for reports.
Neshan Jagmohan, 27, of Hampshire Squatting Area and his older brother Ramnarine Jagmohan, 31, a farmer, of Belvedere Squatting Area, were both on remand for murder. They had attended court on the said date of the incident, June 21, and had just returned to solitary confinement known as the ‘strong cell’ area when the three inmates attacked them with improvised weapons.
Neshan Jagmohan and his brother were stabbed multiple times about their bodies. Neshan who reportedly sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest, neck and other parts of his body died. His brother Ramnarine who was critically injured was stabbed to the upper part of his body and his head.
A post-mortem examination conducted recently revealed that Neshan Jagmohan died from puncture wounds to the heart, lungs and kidney.
Ramnarine Jagmohan and Neshan Jagmohan were charged with killing Devindra Deodat, 34, called ‘Dave’, a businessman of Hampshire Squatting Area, Corentyne in October of 2013.the other three inmates who committed the act were also on remand for various high profile murders.
