Dear Editor,
I write referring to your ‘DEM BOYS SEH…’ edition in K/N of June 28, 2017 headlined ‘ Soulja Bai walking in Jagdeo Kakish footsteps.’
In the said story it states; “He (Jagdeo) used to rent house fuh Rohee, Robert, Paaleen and Pauline. All Guyana know under Jagdeo everything was a state secret. Nobody never knew what ee use to pay fuh dem House but dem boys know it was over $500,000 a month fuh a house.” I can only answer for myself. The other persons mentioned are quite capable of clarifying for themselves, if they wish to.
Just after the May 2015 elections a similar scurrilous claim was made by the K/N and I had cause to clarify that the house in which I lived since October 1992 situated at 105, New Garden Street, Queenstown, Georgetown is state property and not private property. In the circumstances, no rent was ever paid to anyone during those 23 years. The property was previously occupied by the late Dr. Faith Harding a government functionary. Whenever repairs or painting were needed to the building, it was the then Ministry of Public Works that fulfilled that responsibility.
Immediately after the official results of the 2015 elections were announced I vacated the property and sent the keys to the then Ministry of Home Affairs for onward transmission to the then Office of the President. The property has since been refurbished and refurnished with government funds and occupied for almost two years by Dr. Rupert Roopnarine former Minister of Education now a functionary at the Ministry of the Presidency. Since according to K/N, Soulja Bai is now walking in Jagdeo’s ‘kakish’ footsteps, K/N should immediately enquire of Soulja Bai how much and to whom rental is being paid for the said property since its occupancy by Dr. Roopnarine.
