A teacher and her relative were yesterday morning pounced on by two unmasked men
armed with a cutlass and a knife.
Mellissa Ramdan, of Lot 39 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, was reportedly tied up and sprayed unconscious while the bandits ransacked and stole from her apartment in the two storey house that she shares with her cousin.
Ramdan told reporters that she was in bed and was awakened by two men hovering over her. “He was coming over me and said don’t make no noise. They tied me up; I passed out. My entire face was tied up; my throat, I couldn’t breathe at one point.” She stated that when she regained consciousness they were demanding money and jewelry while ransacking the home.
“Whatever looked like gold they took it and whatever money I had they took it,” the woman said. She said that they left after an hour and a half but sprayed the entire apartment with a substance. “I locked myself in the washroom and stayed there for about ten minutes with my eyes and nose burning. I don’t know what they sprayed and then they came and demanded that we go upstairs.” They reportedly kicked the toilet door open while covering their noses to get her out of the washroom.
Ramdan explained that after heeding to their demands they retreated to the upper flat where she called on her cousin staying in the upper flat of the building.
Krishna Sookhoo, who resides in the upper flat of the building said that he heard Ramdan calling at the door and upon opening he was met by two other men holding his cousin hostage.
“I saw two men standing with her and one said don’t panic so instinctively I know is bandits so I chuck the guy and I fell back into the stairway and I run out in the yard and start yelling thief! Thief! Subsequently I discovered I was bleeding and they escaped”.
The perpetrators managed to escape with gold jewelry valued at $600,000, one laptop computer, a $50,000 wristwatch, a $2000 handbag and $25,000 in cash. Sookhoo sustained a chop wound to the head. He was treated at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital and sent away.
