A young woman, who went into a state of depression after waking up next to her dead husband a little over three weeks ago at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD), has committed suicide.
Cindy Dawson, 28, hanged herself at the side of her brother’s home in Essequibo.
She was last seen alive around 23:00 hrs on Sunday and around 05:00 hrs yesterday, her sibling discovered her hanging by a piece of electrical wire, from the roof.
It is suspected that she might have killed herself after failing to cope with her husband, Kevin Dawson’s death.
The teacher, who was residing at Cumming Lodge with her husband, had moved in with her brother after she was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital on June 08, last. She was being treated at the hospital for depression and malnourishment.
On June 05, last, the woman was discovered in her apartment with the decomposing body of her husband, two days after they had not been seen or heard from.
Kevin Dawson was suffering from typhoid and malaria and it is suspected that he might have died in his sleep on the morning of June 03, last.
After the couple had not been seen for two days, a friend of the woman went to the house and called out for them.
This newspaper was told that the 28-year-old woman answered from the kitchen window and collapsed shortly after. She was picked up and rushed to the hospital.
When she regained consciousness, the teacher could not recall what had happened. She only remembered when she was rescued. She could not recall that her partner had been dead, and went into depression after finding out about his demise.
