A 50-year old woman is hospitalized after being accidentally shot by her husband in their Bougainvillea Park, East Bank Demerara (EBD) Home, around 02:30 hrs yesterday.
The woman has been identified as Ann Kurt. She was shot to the abdomen and is in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Her husband, a licenced firearm holder is in police custody assisting with investigations.
According to information received, the couple returned from an outing after which the woman went to shower and upon entering their bedroom she heard an explosion, followed by a burning sensation to her abdomen.
Upon realizing that his wife had been shot, the man rushed her to the hospital.
The 60-year-old husband told the police that he was clearing the weapon when it accidently went off and injured his wife. His firearm has been lodged as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old pork-knocker, Glenn McCardy was shot to the lower abdomen after attacking two police ranks with a chopper around 16:45 hrs on Sunday at Omai Landing, Region Seven.
He was reportedly carrying a quantity of cannabis and tried to prevent the ranks from arresting him when he was shot. He is in a stable condition at the McKenzie Public Hospital.
According to reports, two policemen who were performing duties at the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) confronted the suspect, about whom they received information that he was in possession of narcotics, in a bulky haversack he was carrying.
The Guyana Police Force in a release said that the ranks reported that the porkknocker, upon being approached, quickly drew a chopper from his haversack and charged towards the ranks, resulting in him being shot.
He was subsequently disarmed and a search revealed a quantity of dried cannabis in his haversack.
The exhibits have been lodged.
