A raid executed by law enforcement authorities at the New Amsterdam Prison over the weekend found several improvised weapons, a quantity of drugs, along with other illegal items.
According to a Prison Official, three improvised weapons and 39 small Ziploc bags containing seeds stems and leaves were discovered. The marijuana was weighed and amounted to some 30 grams. Nineteen razor blades, twenty nails, one pair of scissors, nine smoking utensils, five metal spoons, two cell phone batteries, two SIM cards, two ear pieces, three adapters, four cigarettes, two pieces of mirror and a quantity of wire, were also discovered. The raid was conducted after an inmate and his brother were stabbed by other prisoners using improvised weapons.
Meanwhile, a Post Mortem examination carried out on the body of Neshan Jagmohan revealed that he died from a punctured heart, lungs and kidneys. His brother Ramnarine Jagmohan has since been discharged from the hospital.
Neshan Jagmohan, 27, and his brother Ramnarine Jagmohan had just returned from court on Wednesday and were in the “strong cell” when they were attacked by three other inmates.
Neshan Jagmohan was stabbed to death while his brother was left fighting for his life with several stab wounds about his body. Neshan reportedly sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest, neck and other parts of his body, while Ramnarine received a stab to the upper part of his body and injuries to his head.
Investigations thus far have revealed that on Tuesday last, word got around to one of the inmates who attacked the Jagmohan brothers, that they allegedly were scheming with a fellow inmate to kill him. One of the Jagmohan brothers was said to be the main supplier of improvised weapons.
Meanwhile, the three inmates who have since been identified as the alleged attackers, and were on remand for murders committed in the past, were placed in solitary confinement. They are likely to face additional charges of Murder and attempted murder respectively. Divisional Commander Ian Amsterdam confirmed that the case file is incomplete, but will be sent for advice shortly.
