Junior Chess Champ Saeedwar Ali and Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Sheriffa Ali, are currently in Barbados competing for honours at the Central America and Caribbean U-20 Chess Championship which got underway from June 22nd and concludes on the 29th.

Four other nations, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize and Barbados will also contest for honours and Guyana’s representatives are extremely confident of doing well. The duo’s participation was made possible through sponsorship from the National Sports Commission and President of the Guyana Chess Federation, James Bond.
Before they departed, the players paid a courtesy call on the Director of Sport, Christopher Jones, who extended congratulations and best wishes. Mr. Jones urged them to be of exemplary behavior even as he challenged them to bring home gold. Both players expressed delight at the confidence placed in their ability and promised to represent this country with distinction.
