St. John’s certifies more than 100 students in First Aid, Home Nursing training
Given its mandate of serving humanity, St John’s Association Guyana on Saturday certified more than 100 students in the basic medical training.
The predominantly female class graduated after receiving basic training in First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Home Nursing.

Chairman of the St. John’s Association, Mr. Vibert Parvatan, noted the graduates would have undergone a 12-week training programme with the Association.
“We had a predominantly female class and one student in particular, Minella Walcott, who commuted every day via public transport to and from Lovely Lass, Region Five to attend classes in Georgetown.”
Parvatan said that in addition to providing training at the Cowan Street, Kingston Headquarters, St John’s facilitates training for staff of businesses, corporate and other entities upon request of their employers.
He said that public and private organizations can benefit in this regard since there is a direct link between the First Aid training and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
The Chairman explained that basic medical training helps to make organizations compliant with stipulations outlined the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Additionally, Parvatan said that with President David Granger as patron of the organization, there is a greater awareness of the importance of First Aid training in Guyana.
Since the President came on broad, the influence has been positive. Mr. Parvatan said that the President has advocated for First Aid Division in all ten Regions.
He posited that training offered by the association is an integral part of health care provision in Guyana.
“For the graduates, the programme can serve as a foundation in a career in nursing, and other areas of medical specialization.”
In addition to serving humanity, Parvatan held that St John‘s values are premised on Christian values which encourage love and peace.
The Chairman explained that as part of its mandate, St John’s partners with the Civil Defence Commission, the Guyana Defence Force, Regional Administrations and the Ministry of Public Health to collectively respond to instances of National Disasters.
Additionally, St John‘s has ambulance Brigade divisions in Linden and Berbice. One of the main objectives of the organisation is to revive all the Brigades in the country.
