Police in B’ Division are still on the hunt for Goldburn December aka “Goldie”, the man who viciously attacked his ex-wife Mintie Karamchand at her Sheet Anchor residence on Wednesday, resulting in her death.
Divisional Commander Ian Amsterdam confirmed with this publication that ranks have not received any major leads in locating the suspect, but will continue the search until he is found, dead or alive.
On Wednesday last, while in the process of moving out from her Lot 19 Sheet Anchor premises, Mintie Karamchand was approached by her reputed husband, December. The two reportedly exchanged a few words before their 21-year-old daughter Drucilla December ventured to the lower flat of the two-storey home, only to find her mother bleeding profusely from her feet and hands.
The young woman told reporters that her father, using a chopper from the kitchen, had slashed her mother’s ankles and wrists. In her attempt to save the badly injured woman, with her infant in hand, she tried to intervene, but was ordered by her mother to move away. At that point, the young woman rushed out of the yard and screamed for help from neighbours. She said no one responded.
An eyewitness recounted seeing Mintie Karamchand’s still breathing and lying in a pool of blood when December, still in a rage, “ran back into the yard to finish her off. He wanted her dead”. According to the eyewitness, the man grabbed two pieces of wood and clobbered the woman to her head several times. He then escaped on foot.
The victim was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital not long after where she succumbed. The police were eventually summoned and a search was launched for the suspect.
The dead woman bore five children for the suspect.
From reports, the attacker left Karamchand and their five children and migrated to neighbouring Suriname approximately eight years ago. He was reportedly deported from that country about a month ago and was staying at the Sheet Anchor home with Karamchand, their daughter and grandchild. The daughter stated that they were not romantically involved, since her mother had moved on, but this apparently made December jealous and there were frequent arguments between the two.
Investigations are continuing.
