Four Clubs to contest
The Leonora Track and Field Facility, Football Field is the venue for Sunday’s Arthur Chung Memorial Football that will see the top four clubs in the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) battling for top honours.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) organised event, which is in association with the WDFA, will be played a few villages away from the birth village of Guyana’s first President who was born at Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara on January 10, 1918 and died on June 23, 2008.
The first President of Guyana from 1970 to 1980, would be remembered during what is anticipated to be an exciting football showdown among sides that have had the chance to battle each other over the past few months and are relishing yet another chance to engage in combat.
The draw has already been done by the executive of the WDFA and will see Pouderoyen battling Den Amstel in the first semi-final of the one-day tournament from 15:00hrs which would be followed by a clash between Uitvlugt Warriors and Eagles FC of Stewartville.
Both matches would be played for 40 minutes, two equal halves of 20 minutes. The respective losers will then take the field for the third place playoff which would be played for 60 minutes while the semi final winners will earn the right to face off in the final that will last for 80 minutes.
Kicks from the penalty mark would be employed in event matches are tied at the end of regulation time; three (3) each in the semi finals and five (5) each in the third place and final.
Attractive prizes are on offer for all the teams that will be on show as first to fourth place will be rewarded. Additionally, individual prizes will go to the best goalkeeper, highest goal scorer and best young player on show.
Kick off time is 15:00hrs.
