A Corentyne man, who allegedly raped his stepdaughter, was yesterday placed on $150,000 bail.
The 43-year-old accused appeared at the Albion Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Marissa Mittelholzer where the charge of rape of a child under sixteen years old was read to him.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was granted bail.
He is set to return to court on July 14.
On February 23, last, the 13-year-old alleged victim related to her mother that her stepfather had been sexually abusing her for some time. The woman stated that her daughter told her that the man had sexual intercourse with her four times. The teen’s mother then confronted her partner about the allegations made by her daughter. The matter was reported at the Whim Police Station.
After an investigation was concluded, the file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
A medical examination had confirmed the teenager was sexually assaulted.
