Thirty two-year-old Sherwin Saul was remanded to prison after allegedly defrauding his uncle of eight ounces, three pennyweights of raw gold.
Saul, a gold miner, of West Coast Berbice, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that between January 24 and February 24, last, at White Water, Aranka Backdam, having solely received 15 ounces, nine pennyweights of raw gold on account of Kevin Saul, his uncle, he fraudulently converted eight ounces, three pennyweights to his own use and benefit.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan refused to grant the gold miner bail after Police Prosecutor, Arvin Moore, said that he is a flight risk.
According to the prosecutor, during investigations, Saul was released on $100,000 station bail and was instructed to report to the police station which he failed to do. The prosecutor pointed out that the defendant was subsequently arrested in Georgetown by police. Saul was remanded to prison until June 16 when he will make an appearance in the Bartica Magistrate’s Courts.
