In Guyana it is very painful to hear stories of women whose lives came to a violent end at the hands of someone who supposedly loved them. This is the case of Shenika Elliott-London of Amelia’s Ward, Linden. She was allegedly murdered by her husband, Michael London.
It is sad to hear the stories of hundreds of women who are trapped in relationships because they are being threatened with violence should they opt to leave their male partners. It is also pathetic to know that a vast majority of men are trapped in the dangerous mindset that if they cannot have their wives or female partners, then no one else will.
This means that women who are in abusive relationships face serious threats to their lives whenever they leave their male partners.
In public most men appear to be normal, but behind closed doors many are verbally and physically abusive. They are controlling and emotionally manipulative. However, it is very difficult for women to predict the behaviour of their male partners prior to the establishment of a union.
Although men in general do not have stamps on their foreheads that say I am an abuser or a murderer, yet, women should look for red flags or warning signs. They should take actions to avoid being with one of these men. But too many women rush into relationships right away. Women should take enough time to know their partners and not miss the vital warning signs and red flags.
Many women tend to fall in love with men with money and for their physical appearance. The relationship expert, Jackson Brown said, “Choose your life mate wisely because from that one decision will come 90% of your future happiness or misery.” This is so true. Nothing could be more apt.
Only a handful of women are attracted to men who do not have money or a handsome face. Women should make certain that the person whom they choose would be committed to spend the rest of their life with them and who would bring them happiness, peace and joy.
Finding a perfect soul mate in life can be difficult sometimes. However, women should be happy and confident in being single. They should know who they are, what they want, and most of all, they must love themselves first before getting into relationships.
They should also stay clear of persons who are involved in a relationship. Most relationships that begin with an act of infidelity do not last.
It is wise for women to choose a soul mate whom they love and who loves them; someone who speaks their language and who is ready to support them and stand beside them through thick and thin. Soul mate often implies that two people are made for one another but women should not think that a perfect harmony exists in such relationship. Studies have shown that all strong, close and lasting relationships have conflicts and disagreements, therefore, women should not be looking for a perfect or an amicable relationship.
Women should be looking for a soul mate to grow with, someone who would always respect them even when they may not see eye to eye; a soul mate who will make them feel like heaven is on earth.
It is rather unfortunate that most men and women find their soul mates after they have had a few bad or abusive relationships. If women realize how difficult it is to find a soul mate, maybe they would likely approach the whole dating scene more carefully and in more ways than one.
