Guyanese will now be able to add to their television entertainment with the launch of ‘’Days like Dese”. The new television sitcom is being presented by GEMS Theatre Productions in collaboration with IPED’s support
for the Creative Industries.
‘Days Like Dese’ is a 30-minute sitcom that delves deep into the daily lives of a diverse ‘socially responsible’ middle class Guyanese family, the Rupauls. The sitcom inspects and highlights the intricacies of family and community interactions through blurred racial and social lenses. The sitcom, through its intentionally diverse and mixed casting, intends to remind us of how connected we really are as Guyanese.
The Rupaul family exists not only in a racial blender but a social and generational one. As it develops, the sitcom will reveal how the youth and the older folks try, and sometimes struggle, to bridge the generational and social gaps.
It is expected that viewers will feel connected with this family as they journey with them, traversing terrains that may sometimes be considered controversial but always palatable, according to Gem Madhoo Nasciemento, the producer.
The writer of this intriguing television sitcom is Randolph Critchlow, and the theme song (lyrics) was created by Kwasi ‘Ace’ Edmondson with the music by Joel Brown.
Both Madhoo-Nasciemento and Critchlow are directors of the show.
The actors are Nurriyyih Gerrard, Mark Luke-Edwards, Ron Robinson, Lavonne George, Simone Dowding, Kirk Jardine, Shevon Henry, Rajan Tiwari, Simone Persaud, Makayah Smith, Safira Abrahim-Williams, Kailey Liverpool, Brian Goodman and Olivia Rodrigues.
The inaugural airing of ‘’Days like Dese” will be on TVG28 today [Sunday, May 28, 2017] at 17.30 hours. Another airing will be tomorrow [Monday, May 29, 2017] at 18.30hours.
It will also be aired on NCN Channel 11 on Tuesday May 30, 2017 at 19.00 hours and Wednesday May 31, 2017 at 17.30hours.
