Police Inspector Ram, who is attached to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, stood helplessly
as murder accused Donnel Trapp drenched him with a bottle of water.
The incident occurred around 14:15hrs, when Trapp, who is committed to stand trial at the High Court burst out of the prisoner’s holding cell and pushed Inspector Ram several times to the chest before throwing a trash can on him emptying all the food particles on him.
Inspector Ram was then verbally attacked by Trapp who threatened to kill the Inspector. Police ranks with high powered weapons and shields were summoned to the scene.
A visibly shaken Inspector Ram was escorted out of the court compound by his colleagues.
Trapps’s mother tried to calm him down but her efforts were to no avail. The woman collapsed to the ground after complaining of chest pains.
The woman soon lapsed into unconsciousness. She lay motionless on the ground until her son and two other prisoners fanned her. When she revived they gave her a bottle of water. But the woman was still unable to get back on her feet.
Trapp continued his tirade and began pelting all sorts of objects around the court compound without taking into account that there were people, including children standing on the court steps.
Persons ran for cover and the courtyard was kept on lock down. No one was allowed to enter
or exit the public place.
Other prisoners intervened and talked to an outraged Trapp, who eventually calm down and walked calmly into the prisoners’ van to be taken to the Camp Street Prison.
And up to then there was no clear understanding of what caused the prisoner to behave so erratically, today.
