In what could only be described as a drama-filled conclusion to this year’s Boyce & Jefford Family & Fun Day Dominoes Competition, Phantom continued their excellent form by holding off Masters and C-7 in a close finish to win the final on Wednesday night, at 1223 Gaulding Place, South Ruimveldt.
Following an impressive semi-final performance on Monday when they defeated C-7 and Unity to book their place in the final, Phantom chalked up 77 games to scrape home ahead of Masters on 76 and C-7 on 75 to bring the curtains down on another exciting tournament.
For their efforts, Phantom took home $130,000 and the winning trophy, while Masters received $75,000 and a trophy and C-7 $40,000 and a trophy.
Speaking at the conclusion of the event, Co-organiser Colin Boyce thanked the sponsors and the teams for their respective commitments to the tournament and added that because of their loyalty, citing the large number of teams that participated, the Committee has consented to elevate Dominoes to a priority level come next year.
”The support demonstrated by the teams’ shows clearly that we will have to go back to the drawing board to extend the duration of the tournament from one day and ensure that we do not go beyond the assigned day,” Boyce said.
Meanwhile, Matthew Glen was voted the Most Valuable Player.
