Investigators have detained a man and three of his sons for the Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara (WCD) chopping death of 36-year-old Clinton Walks, whose body with multiple chop wounds was found on the roadway.
Kaieteur News understands that the men were picked up Tuesday night after ranks at the Leonora Police Station received a tip off.
It is suspected that Walks’s body might have been dumped at the location in the wee hours of Sunday after being killed at another location. It is also believed that the victim might have been killed during a robbery.
Walks of Lot 3 Bus Shed Street, Uitvlugt, was found with multiple chop wounds on the roadway at Uitvlugt Bus Shed Street.
The police said that Walks was wanted in connection with several reports of break and enter and larceny, as well as simple larceny.
He had served an 18-month sentence in 2015 after being convicted for break and enter and larceny. Junella Hall, the slain man’s sister, said that she last saw him at the family’s home on Saturday afternoon. He then went out, but did not relate where he was going. He did not own a cellular phone.
According to Hall, who is a member of the area’s Neighbourhood Community Police, a family friend came to her residence on Sunday morning and informed her that “‘Bongo’ was lying at the back of the pasture with his guts coming out.”
The sister said that she and other relatives ventured to the scene where they made the gruesome discovery.
The woman added that her brother did odd jobs in and around the community to sustain himself and was recently released from prison.
Although she admitted that her sibling is usually in and out of the lock ups, she refuted reports of him being wanted by police.
”He is well known in the community. If the police did want to catch him they could have done so,” the grieving woman said.
Hall expressed horror at the manner in which her brother met his demise.
”They shouldn’t have beaten him. They should have carried him to the station and not take the law into their own hands.”
She described him as a very helpful person who always lends assistance to persons in the neighbourhood. She however disclosed that her brother was very “disgusting at times” and would set fires “when he cannot get what he wants.”
