Dear Editor,
It is sometimes painful to read, or even watch the sakiwinki style of politicking by former Attorney General, Anil Nandlall. This individual is portraying himself as an overnight born-again member of the legal fraternity in Guyana, and maybe in the process, has forgotten of leaving behind some questionable and muddy-footprints along the corridors of our justice system.
I wish not to waste precious time on his infantile like antics in the media, as he tries to, in a comical manner paint himself as a political target, or being crucified for his so-called political status. Of course, his cry of foul play, while pretending to be a martyr does not come as a surprise to most Guyanese.
Having said that, I now wish to quote Nandlall, as he shamelessly cry foul after Justice Holder recuses himself from hearing the Carvil Duncan’s case; “I put it mildly when I say that the Judiciary has failed to properly assert its majesty or defend itself, competently, in this matter. I have no doubt that it has failed public expectations. Its actions/ omissions in this case lend themselves to the interference that it is buckling under executive pressure and influence. That there will be a consequential loss of public confidence in the judicial system, I am in no doubt.” (Stabroek News, May 8, 2017)
Surely, had this statement been made by someone with some credibility, even as small as a mustard seed, maybe, it would have carried much weight. However, Mr. Nandlall, has in the past, played a pivotal role in making a mockery of Guyana’s judicial system.
I wish to address two cases, that maybe, Nandlall, will someday come clean on: (1) His role in the removal of then Chief Magistrate, Juliet Holder-Allen, from conducting the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the trumped up treason charge against me. And, (2) What was his role in the alleged conspiracy, with the lone juror in my first and only High Court hearing, in the said ‘treason’ matter.
After all, there are still many jurors who were in the room, and who can (I’m sure) testify to the numerous phone calls, and conversations that lone questionable juror received. And yes, it was crystal clear where those calls were coming from. So, Nandlall, needs to stop with his barefaced hypocrisy about judicial skullduggery. Since, his party (PPP) and then government, made a mess of judiciary, and all other institutions across Guyana.
