A Linden woman who police say confessed to selling marijuana was yesterday remanded to prison on a narcotics charge, after she made an appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Marsha Reece, 35, of Lot 98 Victory Valley, Wismar, Linden, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on May 4, last, at Linden, she had 197 grammes of cocaine in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that on the day in question police were conducting a raid exercise in the area when they observed Reece running with a black bulky shoulder bag.
The Prosecutor said that police chased after the woman during which she was caught throwing away the bag. Ranks retrieved the bag and unearthed a quantity of whitish rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine.
However, Attorney Adrian Thompson told the court that his client was among eight persons arrested after the raid. The lawyer added that the individuals were kept in police custody but Reece was the only one to be charged pointing out that the narcotics was not found in her possession.
According to the prosecutor, Reece admitted to police that she sells the illegal drug. The Chief Magistrate refused bail for the defendant citing that no special reasons were provided to the court. This matter has been transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Courts.
Meanwhile in another case, a 40-year-old man of Christianburg, Linden was remanded to prison on a narcotic charge. Appearing before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan was Wayne Venture who denied the charge which alleged that on May 4, at Victoria Valley, Linden, he had 31 grams of cannabis in his position for the purpose of trafficking.
Wayne, who told the court that he is unemployed, was instructed to return to court on May 17 also, in the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
