Dear Editor,
Here’s to the crazy ones, the trouble makers, the rebels, the misfits, the round pegs in square holes. You can criticise, glorify or velify, but the one thing you can’t do is ignore them. They change their faces and their promises. They aren’t fond of the rules and laws of this great country. They create their own rules and we all have to tow the line or else we the hard working lower and middle class will feel the brunt of their retaliation.
You promised us a better life and a government that will protect us and take care of our interests. You promised us the restoration of true democracy and transparency along with equal rights. You promised us with the coalition, things will change for the better. Our youths will be in the working population, our Industries will be more transparent than ever and the list goes on and on. Listen to the speeches from your cabinet, prior to them sitting in office. Where are those promises now Mr. President?
Here’s what we have from those promises; 14% VAT (you meant education of all things; why not alcohol or tobacco). Roop (Dr. Roopnarine, Education Minister), you remain quiet.
Higher unemployment, higher criminal activities, even though they gave us draconian data to swallow. We aren’t stupid but we are being pitied by our Caribbean neighbours. More migration! Your cabinet promised the cozy relationship the now defunct PPP had with the offshore vultures, will end when they got into power. Not so, they continue with them and leave us in the wind. Look at our rice industry, our sugar industry, you’ve just finished 2 years and they have crumbled even though you promised better price for rice (Moses)
Remember the founder of the parking meter accusing us of being recipients of hand outs in a very derogatory way. The councillors all sided with him. Today you asked the Guyanese Brits to return and invest. Are you considered another beggar? Guess not. We won’t forget the 2 that led the majority to believe Guyana will be better with the coalition. When the coalition goes another party of unscrupulous so-called leaders will evolve and make similar promises now in the wind. They all come and go, if for no other reason, other than to help themselves and their cohorts. A very sad state of affairs but life goes on and we will all live for just another day. Some with the hopeless life will seek higher ground or worse.
Our Youths are still in the wind. Look at the baby boomers and the Traditionalists who occupy the offices. We aren’t blind. Enough is enough. I leave you with these solemn words about those who lead “There are leaders and there are those who lead. Leaders have power of authority, and we will follow them because we have to. But those who lead say something different. They inspire us, and we will follow them not because we have to but because we want to; they change things and push the human race forward not backward.”
