Leon Gibson, 47, Pork Knocker, of East Ruimveldt Georgetown was yesterday sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and fined $15,000 after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Gibson pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on May 4, last, at Three Mile Lethem- Mabura Trial; he cultivated the prohibited plant, marijuana.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore stated that on the day in question the accused was seen with a spray can tending to his prohibited plants.
The Court heard that Police in the area acting on a tip-off went to the area where they discovered over 300 marijuana plants raging from six feet, which were all destroyed by the officers.
The accused was arrested and under caution told the officers that he normally cultivates the illegal plant.
Before the Chief Magistrate passed sentence the accused told the court, “Madam you and I both know how things hard in the streets. I don’t want any trouble with anybody so I decided to go far, far away and plant my thing.”
The Magistrate after listening to the accused and considering the fact that he did not waste the court time jailed him for three years.
