A 59-year-old man was killed on the busy Amelia’s Ward main road around 18:45hrs
yesterday after a sports car struck him.
The victim was identified as Michael Simon of Amelia’s Ward, Linden. Reports suggest that he was under the influence of alcohol.
According to reports, the driver of the sports vehicle, PVV 9182, was heading east along Amelia’s Ward when Simon suddenly attempted to cross and was struck by the vehicle.
The driver, who is said to be from Toucan Drive, Amelia’s Ward, took Simon to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have detained the driver.
Mayor Carwyn Holland, who was in the vicinity, expressed sadness at the loss of life.
He also repeated the call for more street lights to be erected in the area.
The accident occurred a short distance from the Amelia’s Ward Police Outpost.
Over the years, several accidents have occurred on this thoroughfare. In 2007, ten passengers died after a minibus slammed into a lumber truck.
