In response to an article headlined ‘Delayed Police probe forces alleged rape victim to file complaint with DPP’ published in the Tuesday May 2, Edition of this publication, an alleged rape victim shared her belief that deliberate moves are being made to stymied the police investigation of her case.
The woman in the article in question told this publication that she had visited the DPP’s office to inquiry about the case and was informed that the file was not returned to the office of the DPP which had requested additional information in order to offer advice.
However, the office of the DPP in a response to the aforementioned article said that “It is true that on Friday April 28, 2017, we received a complaint from the alleged rape victim through her pastor, Raymond Cummings. The victim herself has never visited these Chambers nor have we ever spoken to her via telephone or otherwise. When we met with Mr. Cummings on Friday, myself and State Counsel who gave legal advice when the police file was sent to these Chambers, first in January 2017 and again in February, we informed Mr. Cummings that based on the victim’s complaint, ‘we will send back for the police file.’
I did not, neither did State Counsel, tell Mr. Cummings that “the investigations will have to start all over again,” as is published in paragraph four. It is totally wrong and I sincerely hope that KN will publish an apology and retraction to this misleading information.”
Moreover, this publication is apologetic for all aspects of the article that were misleading based on the disclosures of the alleged rape victim.
