Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, who is presiding at the Providence Magistrate’s Court, imposed a two-year jail sentence on a man who stole his step-father’s belongings.
Phillip Munisar confessed that between April 22 and April 23 at Cow Pen Street, Eccles, East Bank Demerara, he stole 25 pounds of flour, a quantity of window blinds, a cell phone, a hammock and gardening tools totalling over $75,000 – property of Monel Ferreira.
According to facts, on the evening of April 22, the victim retired to bed leaving the items mentioned in the charge, intact. However, when he woke up the following morning he discovered that the articles were missing and made a report with police, naming Munisar as a suspect.
When investigators interrogated Munisar, he admitted to stealing the items and said that he sold them to someone but could not remember their name. Taking into consideration the early guilty plea, the Magistrate sentenced him to two years behind bars.
