A 19-year-old interior worker was yesterday remanded to prison on charges of larceny and
robbery with aggravation after he made an appearance before Magistrate Annette Singh in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Glen Eastman of Samatta Point Grove, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on April 27 at Middle Street, McDoom, East Bank Demerara, he robbed Teshawna Henry of a handbag, a pair of Jordan footwear, and an umbrella among other items to the value of $51,200.
It was further alleged that on April 25, at Middle Street, Georgetown he stole a shoulder bag valued $20,000 and containing $5,000 cash and other documents from Lateisha Nandram.
An unrepresented Eastman pleaded not guilty to both charges.
According to the prosecutor, Eastman is a known character to police. In objecting to bail, the prosecutor pointed out that the defendant was positively identified by the virtual complainants. The prosecutor also cited the prevalence and penalty attached to the offences.
None of the items were recovered. The defendant will make another court appearance on May 29.
