-Silver Bullets take on Swag Entertainment in other semi-final
Reigning champs Ream 25 set up a mouth watering semi-final date with one of the pre-tournament favourites Dave & Celina All Stars following an imposing performance on Monday night, at the Amelia’s Ward Tarmac.
Playing in the final game of the quarter-finals in this year’s Linden segment of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Competition, Team 25 completely outplayed Amelia’s Ward Russians, winning 4-1 to keep their title defence on track.
On target for the winners were Rudy Halley-6th, Ruel Williams-14th, Teon Stewart-24th and Ryan Noel-26th, while Oswald Benjamin-22nd was the lone response for the Russians.
Their opponents for the semi-finals Dave & Celina All Stars were also in ripping for as they easily put away Young Kings 3-0 with Cordell Johnson-4th, Rawle Gittens-12th and Seon Brewley-21st, being the players on target.
In the other semi-final matchup, Jermaine & Family Silver Bullets square off against Swag Entertainment after both teams outlasted their opponents in penalty shootouts.
Silver Bullets won 2-1 on penalty kicks against High Rollers after regulation time failed to break a 1-1 deadlock with Kendolph Lewis 1st minute strike giving High Rollers the lead, before Silver Bullets responded through Jermaine Samuels one minute from full time.
Swag Entertainment was the first team to book their place in the last four when they beat Cherokee Park 2-0 on penalties following a 1-1 stalemate in regulation and extra time.
Nantambu Arbar-4th minute strike had given Cherokee Park the early ascendancy, before Colwyn Drakes netted the equaliser in the 25th minute to send the game into overtime which also failed to produce a winner.
Team 25 Ryan Halley gave them the lead in their clash against Russians when he blasted home from just over the halfway line, before Ruel Willams’ cracker from just outside the box gave them a 2-0 advantage.
The Russians responded through Oswald Benjamin, who scored from the penalty spot, but any ambitions they harboured in making it a fight quickly evaporated when Teon Stewart tucked in from close range to make it 3-1.
Ryan Noel then sealed the deal when he finished with aplomb after outpacing his marker and slotting into an empty goal.
The semi-finals are set for tomorrow at the Sliver City Tarmac, starting from 20:00hrs.
The winning team will take home $400,000 and the championship trophy while second, third and fourth paced teams receive $150,000, $75,000 and $50,000 respectively.
