The much herald Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS continues to invest heavily into the development of its junior cricketers with a donation of over $500,000 worth of bats, bowling pads and gloves. A total of twenty
one members between the ages of 8 to 20 years received the gears which were largely obtained in a joint project with Food for the Poor (Guy) and several other donors.
The Coaching department also received $100,000 worth of cricket balls. Sixteen members received bats, while five others received batting pads or gloves as the RHTY&SC seeks to make sure that every player fulfils his/her full potential. Most of the players from the Club are from less fortunate backgrounds and as such the RHTY&SC Management over the last sixteen months have raised over $1.5 M worth of gears to provide them with their own personal equipment.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster noted that while all clubs in Guyana provide gears for members to practise as a unit, the RHTYSC is the only one to assist members on such a massive scale. Speaking to the young members at the presentation Ceremony, Foster told them that they are very fortunate to be members of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation and to be led by a Management team that is passionate about their personal development in sports, education and every fabric of their lives.
The Secretary/CEO who has served in that position since 2000, urged the youngsters to cherish the equipment and to work hard under the guidance of Head Coach Delbert Hicks if they want to fulfil their dream of playing for Berbice, Guyana and the West Indies. He reminded them that membership is free, the club stands all expenses, numerous benefits including the Annual Awards Ceremony and educational scholarships are available and all they have to turn up with is discipline, a positive attitude, a passion to assist others and a will to work hard to achieve success.
Among the members who received the donations were Sylus Tyndall, Justin Gobin, D.Prahalad, Simon Naidu, Tyreese Sealy, Keith Simpson, Junior Sinclair, Abgail Kishun, Oma Matadin, Lucas Arthur, Mahendra Gopilall, Joshua Rampersaud, Reyad Rahaman, Matthew Pattaya, Joshua Wilson and A.Seegobin.
The Management of the RHTY&SC would like to express gratitude to Food for the Poor (Guy), Kent Vincent, Jimeel Davis and Paul Chan-a-sue along with several overseas based former members of the club who contributed towards the success of the programme.
Captain of the Club’s Under 13 team, Jonathan Rampersaud expressed gratitude to Management for their untiring effort to assist members and noted that being a member of the RHTYSC is a most rewarding experience.
