Dear Sir,
The Management of the Berbice Under-17 cricket team needs to urgently explain to the cricketing public of Berbice, why Junior Sinclair, Berbice most prolific junior opening batsman along with Alex Algoo are being forced to bat out of position at NO. 3. This highly talented batsman, Sinclair, has opened batting for Rose Hall Town, Berbice and Guyana and is one of the most prolific youth batsmen at his age group in Berbice along with Algoo, Kevlon Anderson, Garfield Benjamin and Seon Glasgow.
Sinclair to date has a total of eight centuries at the junior level since 2015 opening the batting. In total he has scored a total of 1653 runs at an average of 50.12 for the RHTY&SC. Some of the centuries are a majestic 107 VS Young Warriors in an Under-19 BCB semi-finals, 105 VS a touring Trinidad Under-19 Cricket Academy, 145 VS Line Path (2016), 110 VS Tamarind Root, 106 VS Tucker Park (Under-17) and 115 VS NO. 73. Sinclair is also one of the main reasons why LCCSS won the National Schools Championship in 2017 and RHT Pepsi and Berbice Under-19 title in 2016 with sheer volume of runs.
We at the RHTY&SC are very upset at this undeserved demotion in the batting order for Junior Sinclair and the non-selection of Tucker Park’s Garfield Benjamin in the final eleven. Benjamin is a national Under-15 player who has represented Berbice since 2015 at the junior level with great success. All Berbicians remember his brilliant winning Knock of 59 in the 2015 Under-15 finals versus Demerara at Wales – where he was named Man of the Finals. Benjamin is also a very prolific batsman for Tucker Park at the Under-17, Under-19 and Second Division levels.
We would be very grateful for answers to the following questions:
a) Why has the most prolific opening junior batsman batting out of his normal position.
b) Was Sinclair demoted to accommodate a player from the Club of the New Czar of Berbice Cricket, who is introducing himself as Secretary of BCB which is secret to most Clubs?
c) Why is Benjamin carrying water when he is a senior player to several players in the final eleven?
d) Why is the Berbice team playing two left arm spinners, an off spinner, two pacers and a leg spinner when Junior Sinclair is a very capable off-spinner, while Anderson bowls medium pace as well. Sinclair in 2016 and 2017 has taken 79 wickets at an average of 8.52 for Rose Hall at all levels, while Anderson has bowled well for Rose Hall Town, Berbice and Guyana, why was the leg spinner not left out of the team to accommodate Benjamin?
e) Why was an unqualified coach selected to coach the team when Berbice has several qualified and highly successful coaches?
We do not know the persons who are selecting the Berbice team are or who is in charge of Berbice Cricket but the Berbice Public deserves answers to the above questions.
