ExxonMobil has awarded TechnipFMC, a Texas-based firm, a contract for the engineering, manufacture and delivery of the subsea equipment for the Liza deepwater project.
The award scope, announced yesterday, includes 17 total enhanced vertical deepwater trees and associated tooling, as well as five manifolds and associated controls and tie-in equipment.
“We are committed to execution excellence and the successful long-term development of the project in Guyana,” said Hallvard Hasselknipe, President Subsea Projects, TechnipFMC.
Liza, operated by ExxonMobil subsidiary Esso Exploration and Production Guyana, is in the Stabroek block approximately 193km (120mi) offshore Guyana in water depths of 1500m (4900ft) to 1900m (6200ft).
In late March, Exxon reported a new find near Liza in the southern portion of the Stabroek block, encountering more than 82ft (25m) of high-quality, oil-bearing sandstone reservoirs.
The Liza well had ExxonMobil estimating between 800M-1.4B billion barrels of oil. The estimates are expected to go up when the US oil giant confirms its findings.
ExxonMobil is expected to drill several more wells in its concessions before starting commercial operations in 2020.
It will be Guyana’s first foray into commercial oil production with the find described as one of the major ones in the region within recent years.
Guyana has been taking steps, including training and new legislation, as well as plans to build an onshore site in Crab Island, Berbice, to cater for commercial activities.
