A team from United States Embassy in Guyana met with newly elected President of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association Ltd. (GMSA), Shyam Nokta, and other officials of the entity on Tuesday at the association’s office to discuss a number of issues and areas of collaboration.
The team from the US Embassy was led by Terry Steers-Gonzalez, Deputy Chief of Mission who was accompanied by Sandra Guzman, Deputy Counselor, Political, Economic and Commercial Section.
Representing GMSA at the meeting were Nokta along with Executive Members Ramsay Ali, Clement Duncan and Raymond Ramsaroop as well as Secretary/Accountant, Nerissa Thornhill.
Nokta, according to the GMSA, took the opportunity to provide an overview of the GMSA’s mandate in the manufacturing and services sector inclusive of its various portfolios relating to agro-processing, trade and investment, services, export promotion, to name a few.
“Cognizant of the significant opportunities that Guyana’s emerging hydrocarbon industry presents, there was also discussion on how GMSA members can be better positioned to contribute to this new sector.”
The GMSA team highlighted several areas open to cooperation at the bilateral level including market access, joint ventures, training and capacity building and trade and investment missions.
“As it regards access to US markets, the GMSA expressed interest pursuing initiatives aimed at information sharing and training for Guyana’s manufacturers on the new US Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and sought the support of the US Embassy in this regard,” the GMSA statement said.
