The Enmore Neighborhood Democratic Council, (NDC) has filed an action in the High Court suing for damages in excess of $1 million for seizure of computers from the office of the NDC at Station Road, Newtown, Enmore, East Coast Demerara.
According to the document filed, representatives of the Enmore NDC are claiming that a party of five men who claimed to be members of the State Assets Recovery Unit (SARU) and servants and/or agents of the State removed the equipment.
Directors of the SARU, Dr. Clive Thomas, Aubrey Heath-Retemyer and the Attorney General of Guyana are listed as defendants in the matter.
The NDC also wants damages in excess of $1 million for unlawful detention of a quantity of desktop computer systems along with backup power packs, all being the property of the said Neighbourhood Democratic Council.
The Party is also seeking payment for conversion of a quantity of desktop computer systems along with backup power packs, all being the property of the said Neighbourhood Democratic Council.
In addition to the payments the party wants an order directing the defendants to return the said desktop computer systems along with backup power packs to the claimant or that the Defendants pay to the Claimant for their value thereof interest pursuant to Section 12 of the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act Chap 6:02; cost and further or other reliefs as the Court may deem just.
