Balram Shane General Store of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice has been with The Young Warriors Cricket Club Mash Cup from its inception and this year is no exception.
This, the fourth edition is now slated to be held on April 30 at the Cumberland Cricket Ground, East Canje, Berbice There is excitement in the air as the public looks forward to this signature event from which proceeds go towards coaching, religious and educational organisations as part of the club’s policy to enhance community development. Betsy Ground Triple Stars are the defending champions.
It is expected that a number of teams from the East Canje area will compete in the action packed five overs aside cricket competition for prize monies of over $100,000. Two top Masters softball teams in Guyana are expected to do battle in a 15 overs aside feature game. There will be added attractions for the kids and the entire family, live musical entertainment and a well stocked bar.
At the presentation ceremony, Balram Shane, owner of the popular store said that he feels satisfied to give back to community development. He thanked the public for their support and promised that he will continue to support sport, cricket in particular. In response, treasurer of the club, Ray Ali expressed gratitude to the sponsor. He promised that the event will be well run and provide fun and entertainment for the entire family. He said that the funds provided will be used as incentive for the competition. He added that YWCC will continue to provide opportunities for the young boys and eventually girls in the East Canje area.
Ali said that the club is proud of its first test cricketer Shimron Hetmeyer and will work hard to maintain its short but rich history.
