The Forgotten Youth Foundation Gym walked away with the Champion Gym title when two-day Pepsi Michael Parris Under-16 boxing competition was held recently at the Andrew ‘Six Head’ Lewis gym in Albouystown.
Forgotten Youth amassed 13 points capture the champion trophy, while Vergenoegen Boxing Gym (formerly Essequibo Boxing Gym) picked up five points to gain second position. Leon Moore Jr. of Forgotten Youth was adjudged the Champion Boxer.
Six gyms participated in the competition which was organized by the Guyana Boxing Association and sponsored by the Demerara Distillers Limited. So dominant was the Forgotten Youth Foundation team that ten members of the gym were selected to a 17-man squad to go into training for the Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors tournament scheduled for May 12 to 14 at the National Gymnasium.
Those selected to the squad are: Leon Moore, Richard Howard, Omar Keiler, Mark Crawford, Patrick Harvey, Milo Jaquan, Orin Harris, Isaiah Moore, Shemar Morrison and Brian Harris (FYF). Jason Warren, Junior Hyman, Delroy Elcock and Shaquille Wright from the Vergenoegen Boxing Gym, Marion Marques from Harpy Eagles and Omar Pollard and Emanuel Pompey who represent Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym and the Young Achievers Gym respectively.
The squad would be trained by Terrence Poole, Sebert Blake, Clifton Moore and Wincell ‘Nacker’ Thomas.
Meanwhile, the GBA has named Lightweight Joel Williamson, light welterweight Colin Lewis and middleweight Desmond ‘Dynamite’ Amsterdam for the American Confederation Championships.
