The annual Dolphin Speed Swim Club (DSSC) inter club meet commenced yesterday with a colourful opening ceremony at the National Aquatic Centre Liliendaal.

The host club, Silver Shark, Berbice, Orca, Sea Otters and Dorado Swim clubs are slated to compete in the event which will conclude today.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of Sports Christopher Jones congratulated Dolphin Speed Swim Club for hosting yet another meet which he said has grown from strength to strength. Jones lauded the parents for showing the type of interest in their children adding that for athletes to be successful they must get involved in the sport at a very tender age. Jones said that this competition provides an opportunity for the youths to showcase their skills and the NSC is always willing to lend support.
Jones spoke about the success of the CARIFTA Games athletes and stated that some of these athletes are part of the NSC/AAG elite squad which was formed following the national schools championships in 2016 and as a result have been awarded scholarships to the University of
Guyana. He related that NSC will continue to monitor the athletes and encouraged GASA to follow suit so that swimmers can also benefit.
President of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association Ivan Persaud urged the swimmers to remain committed to the sport. He stated that he is happy that the club can host such a meet and urged other clubs to do likewise.
