Following two trials matches that were held at Imam Bacchus ground, Affiance, Kevin Christian was chosen to lead Essequibo in the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board inter county U-17 50-over tournament slated to commence on Tuesday.
Orlando Jailall will serve as his deputy, while the rest of the squad reads Reyaz Khan, Saeed Hakh, Badesh Parsotam, Lance Roberts, Leon Swami, Mark Rankin, Dovendra Mohan, Mahase Ramnarine, Romario Stephen, David Chalitar, Azeem Mohamed and Hamel Lam.
Jailall XI beat Christian XI by one wicket in the first game played on Wednesday. Batting first Christian XI scored 135 all out in 37.4 overs. Mahase Ramnarine got 20 and Leon Swami 14. Reyaz Khan grabbed 4-26 and Badesh Parsotam 3-17. Jailall XI responded with 136-9 in 29 overs. Jailall made 40 and Alvin Mohamed 32. Saeed Hakh bagged 5-24.
In the second game played on Thursday, Swami XI overcame Bhumeshwar Ramkissoon XI by 76 runs. Swami XI took first strike and posted 250 all out in 46 overs. Christian struck 59, while Rovindra Mustapha 49 and Lance Roberts 25. Salman Mustapha claimed 4-34.
Set a revised target of 175 in 25 overs, Ramkissoon XI were limited to 99-7. Timal Jaikarran made 21 and Samuel Lam 16; Swami had 2-17 and Roberts 2-19.
The Essequibo team then defeated an Essequibo Select XI by 49 runs on Friday at the said venue. The Essequibo team took first strike and made 190 all out in 30 overs. Christian stroked 55, Jailall 25, Rovendra Mohan 23 and Hamel Lam 22. Essequibo Select XI were bowled out for 149 in reply. Parmesh Persaud hit 43 and Punraj Singh got 28. Roberts captured 4-14 and Swami 2-20.
Meanwhile, the ECB has extended congratulations to Anthony Adams on his selection to the Guyana Jaguars team for their last round game against Leeward Islands Hurricanes which is currently underway at Providence.
