Farmers in Black Bush, Corentyne, Berbice, during a meeting with the Prime Minister’s Office Representative, Gobin Harbhajan, highlighted several issues that they are currently dealing with.
One of the main issues discussed was the urgent need for street lights along the roadways and at bridge points.
Chairman of the Black Bush Water Users Association, Sirpaul Hemraj, on behalf of the farmers requested the street lights.
“We are asking if we could have street lights at strategic points, especially by the street head, the street lamps would do well for us.”
Over the years as the area developed vehicles would frequent the Black Bush roads, but these are plagued with the extreme darkness which many state is a driving and a security hazard. Some farmers are also of the view that having lights illuminating the area would be a major development welcomed by all.
Hemraj stated: “In Mibicuri we only have 20 something streets and just about one third occupied. We are talking about parts that people occupy but the three bridges, all the bridges and along the roadside it is much needed.”
In response to farmers’ requests, the Prime Minister rep promised to assist in making the lights a reality. “I agree with you but I want you to identify the areas and take it to the NDC, also have a letter sent to the Regional Chairman and a letter to me also, and I will take it from there but ensure that it goes to NDC.”
The farmers agreed and stated that they are looking forward to a timely response.
