DCC, TSC, GNIC and MSC were all in winner’s row Wednesday in the opening round of the second annual GCA’s Guyana Diabetics Association and PAHO Under-17 t20 cricket tournament in the City.

At Malteenoes, the home team defeated Saints Stanislaus College by 81 runs with five MSC batsmen getting starts but none going on to reach 20. Wayne Bollers top-scored with 16, while Chad Shivritan (15), Nitri Permaul (15), Matthew Jupitor (14) and Wayne McPherson (14) rallied MSC to 132-8.
Daniel Persaud (2-29) was the most successful bowler for Saints who crashed to 51 all out. Shivritan (3-9), Bollers (2-11) and Renaldo Secharran (2-0) bowled MSC to the commanding win.
At DCC, the hosts defeated Everest by eight wickets after reaching 85-2 from 12.2 overs in reply to Everest’s 81-5 in 20 overs.
Joshua Persaud offered token resistance with 23, while Ariel Tilku made 15 and Vishaul Persaud 11 as Dequan Bamfield took 2-12 for DCC.
Alphius Bookie made an unbeaten 29 with Garrick Persaud made 15 not out and shared in an unfinished 29-run stand after Ashmead Nedd (4) and Gansham Prechand (18) were dismissed.
At Bourda, TSC whipped GCC by eight wickets with Carlos Pollard’ 22 leading GCC to 118-9 as Joel Spooner took 3-19 and Renaldo Fredericks grabbing 2-14.
TSC in reply reached 119-2 in 13.2 overs with Jomal Michael (35*), Devon Allen (21*) putting together 79 in an unbroken third wicket stand after Adrian Hinds (16) was removed at 40-2.
And in the afternoon game at Bourda, GNIC reached 101-8 in reply to GYO’s 100-5. Yugister Persaud top scored with 16 for GYO as Omaya Leverpool took 2-5.
Romeo Browne (22) and Jerome Benjamin (11) got into double figures as Akeem Hendricks had 3-11 and ElNathan Suknanand took 2-16. (Sean Devers)
