Dear Editor,
Please be kind enough to carry the attached letter which is, indirectly, a retort to President Granger’s criticism that development is inhibited in PPP-controlled NDCs/Municipalities.
The President either does not know or is misinformed about the truth. I will cite an instance which I witnessed one afternoon this week as I was riding past the Enmore NDC office. There was a blockade of the roadway in front of the NDC office caused by one man. I came down from my bicycle and observed this man (whom I later learnt to be (name given), an APNU Councillor of the NDC who has constantly been upbraided because of his continuing misbehaviour in meetings) shouting and cursing on top of his voice. Apparently, this man earlier insisted on still being seated as a Councillor despite being suspended.
For a Councillor, this man is a disgrace. He was on top of his voice and using invectives freely and loudly. I recognised a senior official of Region 4 who was egging him on to “give it to them”. Knowing this area, if anyone else was behaving the way this man did, the Enmore Police would have locked him up. But this man seemed special. I enquired from persons, and I was told that this man disrupts every meeting of the Council and that he has the protection of the Region and the Enmore and Cove & John Police.
Mr. President, from what I saw and from other first-hand experiences, I can say that this country is not far from its lowest ebb. Your functionaries are not telling you the truth or you are refusing to acknowledge the truth. The Ostrich became famous for burying its head in the ground and exposing its rear. I am seeing so much of that. I bleed for this country, Mr. President. I voted for the AFC. What I saw this week forces me to conclude that other persons rather than the APNU/AFC politicians, have to in their political and administrative functionaries. It was indeed a sad display of misplaced power by this man and the Regional senior officials. May God have mercy on us!
