The Host/Producer of Maximum Sports Combat & Strength (MSCS), Guyana’s popular “live” one-hour TV Sports programme, which is aired Fridays from 9.05pm on NCN TV, Mr. Max Massiah, a 3rd Degree Black Belt Martial Arts practitioner, was on Saturday April 7, in the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA, presented with a “EXPO 11 & Masters of Martial Arts Award”, during the award ceremony & dinner held later in the evening, after the huge display/demonstration held earlier in the day, and attended by approximately 150 World-renowned Martial Artists with ranks of Grandmaster, Master, Hanshi, Sifu, Shihan, & Sensei.
Massiah has the distinction of being honoured as a 2-time “Legends of Martial Arts Hall-of-Fame” inductee (2015 & 2016), holder of a “Master of Martial Arts GOLD Category Award – Guyana” presented by WISDA (World International Self-Defense Association) & UWAMA (Unified World Association Martial Arts) of Barcelona, Spain.
There was a total of almost 100 demonstrations, with the Guyanese being placed early at #14 to do his demonstration, using his Nunchucku sticks (his favorite weapon he has trained with since the age of 15). He then choose 245lb American Hanshi Johnny Hunter from the audience, to do his “live” demonstration of submission moves, which thrilled the audience to hearty applause. The Martial Artist explained he choose the biggest guy as he finds it easier to utilise their strength & weight to his advantage.
“I have created my own Style, which I call “MAX-I-DO” (pronounced as “max-e-doh”). I am too big to be jumping around with these hot-headed youths of today’s society, in event of a situation, which I would go to full lengths by running or walking away to avoid, so my style is concentrated on breaking my opponents limbs in under 4 seconds to finish the confrontation as quickly as possible,” the TV host explained.
Chinese Movie-Star, Grandmaster Chui Chi Ling (of KUNG FU HUSTLE fame and dozens of other blockbuster movies) was the giant of the event with his extremely friendly and hilarious personality.
All the nominees proved during their display how they earned their rankings, by some awesome (and deadly) performances. Some of the elders in their 60s moved with such precision, speed, and stealth, that 20-year olds would envy.
“Chief Grandmaster Rico Guy, Hanshi Anthony Dwight Lingo, Miguel “Thunderfist” Lopez Snr, Miguel “Thunderfoot” Lopez Jnr, Master Karen Eden Herdman, Master Luis “Mad Dog “ Ortega, & Master David Fury are just a sprinkling of names of the World’s best, which I consider to be some of the most dangerous men in the World when it comes to empty-hand and weapon Combat that attended the event, which was hosted by Sifu Cliff Kupper of New Jersey,” Massiah opined.
Sifu Cliff Kupper noted, “We had a huge honour having you over, great demonstration and your friendliness to all martial artists around the world is the top.”
Massiah said he is ever grateful to the sponsors of MSCS, such as Fly Jamaica Airlines (which also assisted him with his ticket to and from JFK Airport), Fitness Express, Jermin’s Enterprise, Guyana Karate College, Rossignol Butchery, Hand-in-Hand Insurance, Space Gym, Superbet Sport-Betting, Giftland’s Sportsmaxx, Nexgen Global Marketing, Fanta Seafoods, & Mike’s Pharmacy.
