The Shariff Racing stable of No 4 and 6 West Coast Berbice, which is one of the biggest racing stables in Guyana, barring the Jumbo Jet entity, is not pleased with the way horseracing in being administered in Guyana at
the moment.
In a missive to the media, a representative gave details of some of their disappointments. It stated, ‘On behalf of the Shariff’s Racing Stable, we are displeased to say that the decision made during the feature event of Guyana Cup Fever 2017 was very unfair. Spit Fire clearly ran second as can be seen in the photo finish camera and should have been justly awarded. However, the decision taken by the judges to split the 2nd and 3rd prizes with Good Will Boy was unfair. There was no reason and no evidence to support such a decision. This is not the first time unfair and unjust decisions have been made towards our racing stable.
I am humbly requesting Mr. Nazrudeen Mohamed Jnr. to look into this matter because there have always been unfair judgments granted against our stable. It seems that the only racing track that good decisions are made is at the Rising Sun Turf Club.
The only way we will continue to support this event is if decisions are being made fair and just. Take for example Guyana Cup 2016, the judges banned the Jamaican Jockey Brian Blake for the day and took away the prize from Witchie Poo, although the horse was innocent. In the last race held the 2nd April, 2017 at the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club, Golden Blue Echo’s jockey Julius Persaud willingly admitted that he braced Settling Star as it was coming through to pass. The jockey was only fined $20,000, the animal retained its second position and Settling Star remained at third. The position wasn’t reversed or the winning prize wasn’t taken away or the prize money split.
We are calling on those responsible to do something tangible urgently or horseracing would flop,’ the Shariff Racing Stable communicated.
