Mukkamella’s 60 lead tourists to 128-run win against GCA X1
By Sean Devers
A 68-run opening stand between 13-year-old Saijeja Mukkamella and guest player Adrian Hinds led the USACA X1 to an emphatic 128-run win over a GCA X1 in their youth fixture yesterday at Bourda to end their
GCA hosted 11 day tour to Guyana.
Mukkamella reached the boundary thrice in his well calculated 60 from 127 balls before he was run out when well set to become his team’s second centurion, while the left-handed Hinds’ 34 included four boundaries. Pradeep Ravi stroked two fours in 23 and put together 50 with Mukkamella for the fourth wicket. Isaiah Jagarnauth chipped with an unbeaten 19 as the visitors reached 200-7 off 50 overs in hot conditions on a slow track.
The GCA team, who like the Americans, included four U-17 players to their U-14 side, slumped to 72 in 18.5 overs only Twan Hicks, who made an undefeated 20 with two boundaries and talented 12-year-old opener Mavendra Dindyal (11) reached double figures. AS Khangura (4-32), Ravi (3-16) and Aditya Sharma (2-4) did the damage with the ball for the Americans.
The U-14’s suffered just two loses in seven games, while the U-17s lost to DCC under lights, TSC and Blairmont in West Bank Berbice and won their other five games. The 16-year-old Sanjay Stanley started the tour with an unbeaten 55 and followed it up with masterful century the next day against GCC at Bourda to enhance his reputation as America’s best U-17 batsman.
Barbadian Wesley King, Manager of the teams said his charges enjoyed the tour despite the hectic schedule.
“The boys gained a lot of exposure and experience from being here since they play on matting pitches back home. We are very satisfied with the trip. The grounds and hospitality everywhere we went were very good. The best facility was at Malteenoes, while the best ground was the Imam Bacchus ground in Essequibo where we played on Good Friday and would like to thank Mr Bacchus and his staff a wonderful day,” King said.
King thanked the GCA for being a wonderful host and described the tour as a success for both teams. Aryan Chowdhury was the youngest member of team at eight-years-old and the little left-hander looks full of talent.
The team had two day-offs with them attending the last ODI at Providence where they were featured on TV and Easter Monday.
