Golden Blue wins feature race
It was a brilliant day for racing, the sun was out in all its glory, the track was lightning

The feature C2 and lower event of the Guyana Cup Fever 2017 was billed to be a classic and lived up to expectations despite the controversy at the end. Organised by the Jumbo Jet Business entity, the meet was held at the Port Mourant Turf Club. It was Golden Blue Echo of the Nand Persaud Karibee Rice Stable that did it despite losing earlier in the day.
The 11 horse field was packed with top class runners capable of winning the coveted event and the $1M and trophy compliments of Banks DIH Limited over the grueling 1900M distance.
The speedy Princess She Not of The Shariff Stable with Randolph Richmond urging it on as expected was out early. However, it was not given much freedom by the quality chasing pack and was hauled in down the back stretch. With Stable mate Spit Fire of the Shariff Stable known for its fast finish along with the Nand Persaud Karibee Rice trio of Golden Blue Echo, Brace Sky and Honey Flow along with the Jagdeo duo of Just Call Me Boss and Goodwill Boy all in the hunt early as they looked to position themselves for what was turning out to be a tactical race. The lead was changing hands with Golden Blue Echo with Julius Persaud always up there as the event continued at a blistering pace.

With the fast finishers in Jack in My Style and Lady Budapest in the running the race was turning out to be a ding dong affair. The anticipation for the finish was fever pitch as turfites took up all advantageous positions, as the horses hit the homestretch a number of them were in contention as they steamed towards the finish line.
Golden Blue Echo, imported from Canada, had taken the lead, however, by then Spit Fire with Rad Drepual on the perch was burning up the track on the outside as it bear down on the front runners to lose by a neck. However, there were some protests and the judges mysteriously called a dead heat between Spit Fire and Goodwill Boy with the Trinidadian Kizan Razack the jockey. Just Call Me Boss ridden by Colin Ross placed fourth. The reversal of the decision sparked tremendous protest especially among connections of the Shariff Stable.
It’s MY Choice of The Jumbo Jet stable with Trinidadian Ryan Astrana created a major upset as it ran away with the $600,000 and trophy in the E3 and lower event from Golden Blue Echo, Red and Lovely and Release the beast in tow.
Firing Line of the Shariff Stable with Randolph Richmond was on fire as it burned up a top class field in the event for West Indies Bred 4 years old and G3 and lower horses to win easily from Got To Go, Chelsea and T and T.
Midnight Blue of the Romell Jagoop Stable with Trinidadian Nicholas Patrick came out of the blues to upset Campador, Cat Messiah and It’s My Turn in the H3 and lower event.
Mischievous Maker of the Shariff Stable with Rad Drepaul riding won a clean race in the 3years old Guyana bred and I3 and lower event from Mary Ann, King Stanley and Seven Dust.
Miss Olympic of the Singh Stable with Jamaican Brian Blake showed its opponents a clean pair of heals it the J2, K and L winners even, as it burnt up Red Region, Red Jet and Awesome Cash.
Lil Dude of the Jagdeo Stable with Paul Delph riding came big as it won the L class maiden event from She Is in Control, Red Region and Another time.
There were no announcements of champion jockey, trainer and stable. (Samuel Whyte)
